Local Guide: Francis

If you’re looking to explore the Gold Coast like a local, here’s my ultimate list of favourite spots and experiences. Some might be familiar, others might surprise you – but I promise they’re all worth checking out!

A Walk at Beree-Badalla Reserve

Start your morning with a peaceful walk at Beree-Badalla Reserve along the northwest side of Currumbin Creek. Begin at the foot of the Gold Coast Highway bridge and enjoy the serene beauty of nature as you cross the creek at Thrower Drive. On your way back along the southeast riverbank, treat yourself to a coffee or lunch at Tarte Beachhouse or Café by The Bridge. It’s the perfect way to combine exercise, fresh air, and a bit of indulgence.

Bike Ride the Gold Coast Oceanway

One of my favourite ways to soak up the coast is to bike ride the length of the Oceanway all the way to the end of The Spit. The ride is exhilarating, with endless ocean views and the salty breeze keeping you company. Plus, you can stop along the way to take a dip in the water or grab a bite to eat at one of the many beachfront cafés.

Toolona Creek Circuit, Lamington National Park

If you’re up for a bit more of an adventure, head to Lamington National Park and take on the Toolona Creek Circuit starting at O’Reilly’s. It’s a longer hike (17.4km), but don’t let that put you off – it’s relatively easy and the rewards are high. You’ll encounter heaps of waterfalls and breathtaking scenery that’ll make every step worth it.

Greenhouse the Bathhouse

For some relaxation, you must visit Greenhouse the Bathhouse on Tallebudgera Creek Road. Their massages are phenomenal, and they also offer a hot/cold bath experience with a sauna and steam room. While there might be other places on the coast offering similar spa experiences, the vibe here is unique. They also have a vegan restaurant – Greenhouse Canteen – that looks fantastic, though I haven’t had the chance to dine there yet.

Sundowners at Rainbow Bay Surf Club

When it comes to winding down, there’s no better spot than the Rainbow Bay Surf Club. In my opinion, it’s the best surf club on the Coast. It’s one of the few places where you can actually watch the sunset, which makes for a stunning evening. Grab a drink, sit back, and enjoy nature’s show.
